They won't be much use because they're both very situational, but it's worth it for the damage. So after lv.5 you'll end up dealing way more damage with the blade than with the tome, in fact there are just 2 levels in which the tome is higher :P I'd also say to get the GFB and BB cantrips.

Lets say your charisma mod is +4, strength is +2 (but your STR would be higher if you choose this build) and your weapon deals a D8. That way you can play with your STR mod (which will be a little lower) but at lv.5 you'll pick up the thirsting blade and double your damage, making it higher than the tome, then at lv.whatever it is, you can add charisma to your attacks as well. I suggest you go for blade and boost your STR (or DEX if you can ask your DM for a magical finesse cane/quaterstaff) all the way up.

He may not be taking home the gold but he can pull down a silver in almost any category making him a GREAT PC for almost any party. I like to think of this as sort of the Red Mage build. Right now we are only lvl 8 and I'm speced 4/4 but the character is AMAZING.

I also picked up Actor and combine that with Mask of Many Faces or Message for tons of shenanigans. Minus the 3 for combat Shillelagh, Booming Blade, and Eldritch Blast you should have 7 to choose from which is a lot of on demand utility. Lastly if you go deep enough you get access to those fun lvl 3 spells like FIREBALL MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.Īlso the FSS gets a second attack at lvl 6 so if you want to just bonk people for fun there's always that too.Īll and all its a HELLA fun build as you will end up with an INSANE number of cantrips. Lastly if you take Sorc as your 1st class then you get Cha and Con as your saves and proff in con saves for concentration is SOOOOOO nice if your gonna do melee. If you pick Life Sorc then you get some heal and rez spells. Access to the Shield Spell, OMG this is a life saver. Medium Armor, another boon if your in melee. Access to shields which is nice if your gonna be bonking people in melee. Rather than Fighter I mixed in some Favored Soul Sorcerer.īy grabbing Twin and Quicken you can take BB to whole new levels making 2 attacks on a single target with quicken and a 3rd on another target with twin.įSS is gonna net you a couple things. Just really like the idea of a nobleman beating an armored foe repeatedly with a wooden stick while yelling 'BACK YOU UNCULTURED SWINE' in a high pitched voice while jumping around 30 feet and climbing across walls using spells. Pact of the blade is the more clear choice for this build since it's basically the melee warlock build pact. What I'm not decide on is the pact for this character. (assuming a cane is the same damage or lower compared to a club) Now a walking stick isn't normally the first choice of weapon, so I was looking into taking Shillelagh to turn the wooden cane into a d8+spellcasting ability instead of 1d4 strength based. It's not going to be a maximum damage build, it's just mostly for comedic relief in the group but I'd like him to be somewhat useful at least. The image I have in mind is a nobleman with a cane/waking stick that he uses to beat people over the head. They could easily say 'you have proficiency with axes and hammers', but instead they enumerate which axes and hammers with which the dwarf gains proficiency. This is perhaps most evident in the weapon proficiency descriptions for Dwarf. You can see a marked difference between 4e's weapon listings and 5e's.
